The sun is beaming through the open sliding door, gently caressing the white walls of my flat. What can I say, I feel so grateful to witness another beginning and have another opportunity at life. Beckoning to the knowledge of times past I urge you to recognize that which has come before and had its triumph–the ideologies of ancient civilizations of Africa such as Kemet, that have built the very framework of our sociological structures in the modern-day. What we can derive from these structures are symbols of nature that invoke great power and awaken aspects of our spirit. The symbol of the Ankh for example–is a representation of the divine feminine/the divine masculine in one, representing everlasting life.
You may ask, "What does any of this have to do with me?" I'll tell you. When we take with us and apply moral structures that help us keep discipline and integrity in every action, thought, and feeling we are given the steering wheel of our life and have the access to embark on freedoms otherwise not afforded. When we are given the tools to free our mind, body, and soul we have the ability to be a lighthouse and lead those we love and those in general to a safe destination; guiding them and offering them tools to navigate through this material world. This should be our very mission through our art. As Shirley Mclain once said, "Art is man's attempt to preserve his imagination against time." Let us actively choose to preserve imaginations that implore healing, vibrancy, tradition, love, and compassion. This is the way to freeing our fellow man of the heavy suffering that is attachment-through the ego because true love and care do not bind or limit, it liberates. Be a lighthouse so you can guide others lost at sea to safety.
